What is a Regional University Study Hub?
A Regional University Study Hub is an Australian Government supported learning centre designed to support local students with community-based study spaces, academic support, and access to university and vocational courses without relocating. Study King Island is your local Regional University Study Hub.
What facilities are available at Study King Island?
Students can access high-speed internet, computers, printing services, video conferencing, quiet study rooms, and collaborative workspaces.
How do I register to use Study King Island?
Registration is simple—either visit the Hub or contact our team online or by phone.
Are there programs for adult learners returning to study?
Absolutely. We provide personalised guidance and training opportunities all learners, helping you succeed at any stage of life.
Where is Study Centre King Island located?
Study Centre is located in The Annexe, 38 Lighthouse Street, Currie, King Island 7256
The office is staffed Monday 8.30am-4.30pm and Thursday 8.30am-4.30pm
Who is Study King Island for?
All higher and vocational education students. If you are enrolled in higher or vocational education or exploring your higher and vocational education possibilities, we are here for you.
If you are already enrolled in any Australian university or Registered Training Organisation for vocational studies. Simply register with us, and you can use the Centre to study online or externally, and treat the Centre as your academic base.
If you are enrolled to study on campus at UTAS or TasTAFE you can register and use the Centre for study outside of your on-campus contact hours.
If you are interested in further education but not sure where to start or have not studied for a long time, come and visit us during business hours to find out more about your future study possibilities.
What facilities and services do your provide?
At our Centre you will find:

Study KI is a welcoming, safe, inclusive and productive space to achieve your study goals and connect with other local students.
How do I register and access Study King Island?
Anyone interested in higher education can visit us in person during business hours.
You can register to gain full access to Study KI and services if you are over 18 and completing:
- a university course
- a pathway program for entry into a university course
- a vocational course with a Registered Training Organisation
- in secondary school and planning to go onto higher education
Students who meet these requirements and are under 18 years of age can (by negotiation) register and access the Centre during staffed hours with a parent or carer’s permission.
Simply fill in the form to express your interest. We’ll get in touch to complete your registration with you. You’ll need to provide proof of enrolment in a course and your USI, a photo ID and complete an orientation at the Centre before gaining after hours access.
Once registered, you’ll receive your personalised access to Study KI 7 days a week.
Can I access Study King Island outside of business hours?
We know that your best time for dedicated study time might not be during business hours. After-hours access is available for registered students. Once you are registered, we will provide you with your own personalised after-hours access.
Does it cost anything to use Study King Island?
No, our services are completely free.
What type of academic support is available?
We develop and provide our academic support based on the students who register with us.
Can I bring my own laptop or device?
Yes, you’re welcome to bring your own device. We have dual screens you can dock to. Free WiFi is available throughout Study KI.
Can you host my exam?
We can assist to host and supervise exams for universities and other exam providers. We can provide an examination space and invigilation services. Contact us with enquiries.
Is there tech support?
Yes, during business hours. Our staff are here to help with any questions you have, whether it’s logging in, printing, or navigating the portal and systems of your education provider.
I'm not sure higher education is for me or don't know where to start. Can you help?
Yes! This is one reason we are here! We know that university study and vocational study can be very rewarding and bring many benefits. It can be daunting working out what might be the best choices for you. With so much choice, you might not even know where to start.
We will help you discover your options and we offer very practical information to help make decisions and choices. We can support you in many ways if you decide to apply and enrol. We don’t provide careers counselling or other forms of counselling, but we can direct you to services that do.
I'm already studying and really struggling. Can you help?
Yes! We’re here to help with practical advice. We know that uni can be very challenging, but we also know it is helpful to speak to someone face-to-face.
How are we different from a university campus?
We are local support hubs, not universities themselves. We partner with YOUR university or vocational education provider, whichever Australian institution you are enrolled in, to help you succeed in your studies while staying in your community.
Study KI is not linked to any one university, we support students from all higher education institutions including vocational education providers.
Are there other Study Hubs in Tasmania?
Yes! In addition to Study West Coast, Study Centre Circular Head, Study King Island, we are excited to see CUC Eastern Tasmania (St Helens) and a Suburban University Study Hub in Sorell. Join the network, strengthening education options available to regional and remote communities in Tasmania.
